ABOUT ALEX
ALEXANDRE LOUKOS studied arts & cinema at Sorbonne University in Paris, France. He developed a passion for film analysis and also explored art beyond the cinematic space: video art, theatre and electro-acoustic music, including a short and vibrant workshop at the IRCAM institute, founded by eminent composer Pierre Boulez.
- A seasoned Film & TV industry professional
As an editor, Alex has mostly worked on documentaries (shorts, series and theatrical) and a variety of TV shows, including: current affairs, music performances, youth programming and educational content. His work was broadcast on Groupe Média TFO, CBC / Radio-Canada, TV5, ARTV, and TVA (Québec). Urban Forests is his latest work, a theatrical feature co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada that was released in Quebec theatres in April 2025.
- A storyteller and artist at heart
As a filmmaker, Alex has explored genres in short films: experimental documentary, comedy, musical drama and video for art installations. His feature documentary Following Padejo was broadcast on TFO. His latest drama Perils focuses on evocative cinematic soundscapes as a film concept. Both films were mixed by Daniel Pellerin, an awarded industry giant with extensive experience, who has mixed all of Atom Egoyan's films to this day. Working with Daniel was a privilege and a fantastic learning experience in terms of mixing, sound design and music for the big screen.
- All roads led to music
As a composer, one can argue Alex is a late bloomer. However, his passion for film music started early: an improvised piano piece for his own first short film became his first composition that reached festival and TV audiences.
Throughout his career, Alex has collaborated with composers and musicians on various productions. During that time, making music for his film projects was a special joy that kept growing. Alex took classes to enhance his music skills and theory. He then joined the Screen Composers Guild of Canada and attended workshops given by some of the best composers in the country. Finally, Alex was also selected for the guild's mentorship program. He is now acquiring new credits and is keen on building relationships with directors, producers, musicians and artists.
Based in Toronto, Alex is a member of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada and Canadian Cinema Editors. He is also a member of RACCORD (French Language Filmmakers of Canada) and one of the founding members of Le Labo, Toronto’s francophone media arts centre.
"Alex got through my orchestration class with flying colors and handled the emotions in a tricky film scene very well.”

GOING BOLD
Alex’s journey has given him a firsthand experience of the artistic, narrative, technical and financial challenges inherent in film making: from character creation and script writing to post-production workflow.
His intimate knowledge gives filmmakers the chance to engage in a broader discussion about their story’s soundscape. As a composer and creative producer, Alex can help them find not only how music can best support character, emotion, rhythm or backstory, but also what bold storytelling choices are available with music and sound concepts that will give their film a distinct aesthetic signature.
As someone who grew up watching European auteur cinema and ventured into experimental video with visual artists, Alex is comfortable making music that pushes the boundaries of genres and conventions. An early conversation can be a catalyst for ideas and even help with production strategies.
